Equipment

  • Baking tray
  • Bowls
  • Fork
  • Spatula (optional)

Ingredients

For Coffee Cake

  • 2 cups Bisquick baking mix
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 0.66 cups milk
  • 1 fresh egg
  • 0.33 teaspoons ground cinnamon

For Topping

  • 0.66 cups Bisquick baking mix
  • 0.66 cups brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cold butter
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon

For Serving

  • A pinch of powdered sugar
  • A pinch of cinnamon

Instructions

  • Mix dry ingredients, including Bisquick baking mix, white sugar, and ground cinnamon into a big bowl. Mix them with a fork.
  • Create a small hole in the center of the mixture, then add milk and egg to the hole. Mix them well again until the mixture becomes a thick batter.
  • In a medium bowl, combine Bisquick baking mix, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Then add the chopped cold butter and use your hand to rub it until you get crumbs.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking tray with baking paper, then pour half of the batter into a tray and spread it evenly before sprinkling half of the topping. Then add the remaining batter and topping, respectively. Spread them with a spatula.
  • Place a baking tray in the oven to bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Let it cool to room temperature before slicing. For serving, sprinkle a bit of powdered sugar and cinnamon on top.

Notes

  • High-quality butter is ideal for making a crumbly and burst-with-flavor topping.
  • For more crunchiness, you can add chopped pecans.
  • For a stronger flavor, opt for nutmeg, apple pie spice mix, pumpkin pie spice mix, or allspice instead of cinnamon.
  • Feel free to add blueberries to the batter for some fruity notes.
  • Insert a toothpick into the cake to check the doneness. Never overbake it!
  • The total cooking time is based on 10 servings.
